An innovative scheme that aims to keep young people on track has attained national attention following a VIP visit.
Minister for Social Justice and Local Government, Brian Gibbons AM, was guest of honour in Tylorstown earlier this month to visit the On Track scheme.

On Track was originally launched as a pilot to work with those aged four to 12 who were considered to be at risk of becoming offenders in their later life.
However, it has since extended and offers vital services, support and expertise for all the community to ensure they make the best of life opportunities they are offered.

Mr Gibbons heard during his visit how a large range of agencies had joined forces under On Track to offer a “one stop shop” for those who need help and support. It means people can access the service from one point and be referred among member organisations.
Health and social workers, teachers, family counsellors, youth service providers and more work together to support the community of Tylorstown via On Track, which is run by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and is made possible thanks to Welsh Assembly Government funding.

Cllr Annette Davies, Cabinet member for Children and Equality, said: “We were delighted to welcome the minister to Tylorstown so he could see for himself the fantastic work that is taking place and to meet the families who are benefiting from On Track.
“This scheme is about partnership working, not just among agencies such as the Council, Health and social services, but also among schools, parents and the wider community.”
Mr Gibbons said: “We want to make sure all children in Wales are given the best start in life. It is essential for their future and the future of this country.
“Through services working together and early intervention we can provide the help and support that vulnerable families need, making a real difference to the community.”
Tylorstown On Track and its partners have school and after school programmes, parenting groups and youth work – all supported by individual work and home visits: the project can also offer specialist services for those who need extra support – counselling and advice surgeries, substance misuse services, domestic abuse support and others.
