With many different species and a huge variety of types and sizes of rivers, Rhondda Cynon Taf is a great holiday venue for this relaxing sport.

. It is a place where anglers both young and old return year after year to explore further the wealth of fishing opportunity, this area has to offer.

Anyone over the year of 12, who is fishing in freshwaters in Wales (and England), must purchase and hold a valid Environment Agency rod licence before going fishing, and are reminded that they must always carry their rod license with them at all times when fishing the freshwaters.

Online prices are available on www.environment-agency.gov.uk – valid from 1st April 2005 to 31st March 2006 (on sale from 1st March 2005). These licenses are also available from The Telesales Services on 0870 1662 662 or at local Post Offices.

Further, there are a number of private fishing clubs in the area who issue fishing permits, in addition to the Environmental Agency rod license, to enable anglers to fish on their private freshwaters.

You can purchase the local fishing club licenses from local Post Offices in the area, from several sport shops (e.g. Army Surplus & Guns in Tonypandy) or from Spar grocery shop in Ferndale for Darran Park Lake.

Fishing in Rhondda Cynon Taf is Glyncornel Angling Association who own the fishing rites to ten miles of the River Rhondda (between Treorchy and Trehafod) and its tributaries, Glyncornel Lake,Tonypandy.

If fly-fishing is your choice, Glyncornel Angling Association offers a full annual membership to their exclusive club at a cost of £105 for adults and £60 juniors.
