Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is looking for the talent of the future via its popular and challenging Graduate Scheme.
The 2010 round of the scheme will be launched at the Council Open Day at Llantrisant Leisure Centre, between 9.30am and 7pm on March 18.
The Graduate Scheme aims to attract high calibre graduates who have the potential to develop into future managers in the public sector.
Successful candidates are given a two-year fixed-term contract and provided a programme of development where they are exposed to genuine challenges across the breadth and width of Council services.
They will receive support, training and mentoring as they complete their placement, working in a variety of services to respond innovatively and effectively to the challenges faced in the public sector, especially in the current economical climate.
Graduate officers have the genuine opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people the Council provides services for, by challenging accepted ideas and practices.
Working in local government is no easy option. It offers some of the toughest, most intellectually-stimulating challenges around. The services the Council provides, and the decisions it makes, affect thousands of lives in many different ways.
In RCT, it is recognised that we need to continue to grow and develop high-quality services for our residents, and this means having excellence at all levels and encouraging the talent the authority boasts within its workforce.
The Graduate Scheme runs every two years and offers a vibrant environment in which candidates can learn new and transferable skills, working with people from a range of backgrounds in order to develop their career.
Aimed at creating the innovators and managers of the future, the scheme is open to all graduates who have secured a 2:1 or above degree – regardless of when they attained the degree.
Cllr Clayton Willis, Cabinet Member for HR and Open Government, said: “We are proud of the graduate scheme and the opportunities it offers candidates to develop their skills and their careers.
“More than that, we welcome the opportunity for the Council as a whole to benefit from the fresh ideas and innovation that successful candidates can bring to service delivery.
“We know we have to keep getting better and more innovative if we are to have a positive impact on the lives of the communities we serve and, one of the ways we can ensure that is by harvesting fresh new talent and minds so they become the managers of the future.
Applications for this year’s Graduate Scheme must be submitted by April 8.
